StarSkate
StarSkate develops fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, free skate and artistic skating. This program teaches figure skating skills in a group and private lesson format. To be eligible for the StarSkate program, skaters must have successfully completed all 6 stages of CanSkate. All skaters in StarSkate must wear proper figure skates and skate twice weekly on Silver Blades sessions. We group our skaters into four levels, for the 2024/25 season these levels are:
Senior: Star 6 level or higher. Skaters must have passed at least three complete Star 5 tests (Dance, Skills, Artistic and FreeSkate) AND must have reached 12 years of age by December 31. A private coach is required.
Intermediate: Star 4 and Star 5. Skaters must have passed all Star 3 and passed two complete Star 4 tests. A private coach is required.
Junior: Star 3. Skaters must have passed two entire Star 2 Skills, Dance or Freeskate tests. A private coach is required at this level. One, 15 minute, group lesson will be provided by the Club.
Preliminary: CanSkate Stage 6 to Star 2 levels. It is strongly recommended that they skate at least two days a week. The transition to the Preliminary level is an exciting time for the skaters, but sometimes a challenge to navigate for parents. While we recommend commencing private coaching once reaching this level, we recognize that this is not the preferred option for some families. We offer two options to Preliminary level skaters. They will run concurrently on the same sessions.
- Option 1 | Intro to Preliminary: Intro to Preliminary will offer rotating group lessons conducted by multiple club coaches for the entire 60 minute session. Groups will be arranged by skating level. This option may be of interest to NEW Preliminary skaters who do not wish to start with private coaching or do not want private coaching every session.. Intro to Preliminary is only for first year Preliminary skaters. Once it is the skater's second season a private coach is strongly recommended.
- Option 2 | Regular Preliminary (CanSkate 6 to Star 2): This option will include a group lesson for 30 minutes, leaving 30 minutes for the skater to arrange a private lesson and/or train independently. If you are a Preliminary skater with a private coach, please reach out to your coach to discuss your skating schedule. Private coaching is a relationship formed between parents and coaches independently and invoiced separately.
